Buffalo Dunes Golf Course, a Mecca for public Garden City golf, features an 18-hole regulation golf course including a short game practice facility and driving range. Buffalo Dunes was developed from land owned by Brookover Feedyard Inc. Earl C. Brookover Sr. donated the land to the City of Garden City to develop the course. In 1976 architect Frank Hummel designed what came to be Buffalo Dunes. The golf course has won numerous awards and it consistently one of the top rated courses in the state of Kansas. Approximately 20,000 rounds are played annually and is home to the Southwest Kansas Pro Am played annually the first week of August.
