Even though Diamondback Golf Club is located in West Texas, many customers who book tee times there say they feel like they’re playing amid the world-renowned Texas Hill Country. This Abilene golf course has won that reputation with the compelling, picturesque scenery that weaves through the course. Diamondback, however, is more than just landscape candy. This course layout is the work of 1971 Masters Champion Charles Coody, who designed and built it. Coody still lives in Abilene and operates the course, and when asked about his masterpiece, he says, “It was my goal to build a public golf facility that is always maintained in excellent condition and one which can be enjoyed by all levels of golfers. I believe we are accomplishing that goal.”
