Gateway Golf Club features some of the best tee times anywhere in the Detroit golf community. Play at this Romulus golf course takes players through a championship-style layout that measures slightly more than 6,842 yards. It contains forgiving bentgrass fairways and large greens. Gateway’s four sets of tees on each hole allow for maximum challenge and enjoyment for golfers of all skill levels. This layout was crafted by Jerry Matthews Natural Course Design of Lansing, the state’s most prominent golf course design firm. They managed to create an interesting and memorable design on a somewhat plain site. Matthews collaborated on it with five-year Senior PGA Tour veteran Denny Spencer, who brought a special perspective to the project. Nearly 1,000,000 cubic yards of dirt were moved to create target definition, both from the tees and into the greens. They aimed at, and succeeded in, creating a course that appears more difficult than it plays. This is a must-play course, an upscale public golf facility with private club conditions.
