Dothan, Alabama
The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Highlands Oaks is in Dothan, Alabama, in the southeast corner of the state. This 36-hole complex, with three nine-hole championship courses and a nine-hole short course, features some of the longest and most classically designed holes on the Trail. Each nine has a different personality. The Marshwood nine has been made famous (or notorious) by its behemoth par 5 sixth hole, which stretches to 701 yards from the tips. The 422-yard, par 4 ninth hole, a left-to-right dogleg, is arguably the best hole at Highland Oaks and has a tilted green elevated above a swath of wetlands. The Magnolia nine is well-named: specimen magnolia trees dot the higher ground, which you'll reach via a 1,000-foot-long wooden bridge spanning a marsh filled with lichen-dappled trees. The feature hole is the 416-yard fifth, where a split-level fairway offers an option off the tee.
