Rockwind Community Links, formerly called Ocotillo Park Golf Course, is an 18-Hole municipal course, redesigned in 2014. Part of the redesign project was constructing a Par-3 course and short game practice area. The new design provides challenges such as elevated greens, coffin bunkers and rockwalls rolling throughout the golf course and the more demanding design is tempered by 5 tee boxes providing a reasonable challenge for golfers of all levels. The new 14 million gallon lake in the middle of the course provides a beautiful landscape and comes into play on 10, 11 and 18. Number 11 is similar in design to Pinehurst #18 with a 258 yd carry from a peninsula to the fairway over the lake. In addition, the irrigation stream flows through the property adding additional hazards on select holes. In the redesign, you will notice each hole has a unique character created by elevation changes, well placed hazards, demanding greens and other architectural details. The course is a combination of a midwest style with a stream and tall trees along with a desert style course with harsh native areas, bent greens and bluegrass fairways transitioning into wisps of buffalo grass. The end result is one of the most challenging and unique golf experiences offered Southeastern New Mexico, and arguable in the Southwest.
