The natural topography here at Wentworth Hills is a beautifully rolling area. Some of the property is hilly and heavy with trees; other areas are virtually flat meadow. Designer Howard Maurer is a big proponent of designs that both challenge the player and reward the eye. He laid out an interesting and supremely playable course that capitalizes on the beauty of the natural topography. Rolling mounds separate holes and direct and contain play. For instance, hole 1 is a long, 428-yard par 4, probably one of the most challenging holes on the course. However, the tees are naturally elevated and the hole plays downhill. If you can get off a good drive, the topography will carry the ball farther downhill, giving you a shorter second shot. Green sizes average between 5,500 and 6,000 square feet. But more importantly, the greens are correctly designed, sized, shaped and angled for the incoming shot.
